Request for the Refuges and Precepts

Laity: Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!

Permit me bhante/ayye, I ask for the five precepts/*eight precepts together with the three refuges.
Please Bhante/Ayye, kindly administer the precepts to me.

Laity: Yes, Bhante/Ayye.

Three Refuges

(Monk/nun, followed by laity)

I pay homage to the Blessed One, the Worthy One, the Fully Enlightened One. (three times)

I go to the Buddha for refuge.
I go to the Dhamma for refuge.
I go to the Sangha for refuge.

A second time I go to the Buddha for refuge.
A second time I go to the Dhamma for refuge.
A second time I go to the Sangha for refuge.

A third time I go to the Buddha for refuge.
A third time I go to the Dhamma for refuge.
A third time I go to the Sangha for refuge.
